Laptop Recycling & Disposal

Computer Disposals Ltd (CDL) specialise in secure and WEEE compliant laptop recycling and disposal.

As a nation we throw away more than 2 million tonnes of electrical and electronic equipment (EEE) each year, causing considerable damage to the environment in the way of ground, water and air pollution. It is therefore imperative that UK businesses partake in computer and laptop recycling schemes to promote sustainability and protect the environment.

CDL's aim is to make this computer and laptop recycling process secure, cost-effective and hassle-free.

What happens during the laptop recycling process?

CDL assess our customer's laptop recycling and disposal requirements on a case-by-case basis as we can often generate revenue through the remarketing of laptops. Revenue generated is in turn used to offset some or all of the costs or even passed back to the client as a revenue payment.

We use our own drivers and vehicles to collect your redundant laptops from any location in the UK. We don't specify a minimum quantity so you can organise laptop recycling through CDL for any number of units.

Sensitive data is securely destroyed using the latest CESG-approved overwriting software. In the event that a hard drive fails the data erase process, it is physically destroyed at our facility using an ADISA approved disc crusher. As part of the laptop recycling process we record the serial number, customer asset number and full specification details for every laptop collected. This information is populated into the final asset report, which is forwarded to the client when the process is complete.

Where secure data destruction is of paramount importance we also offer an onsite hard drive destruction service as part of the laptop recycling process.

Why is laptop recycling important?

The amount of electronic and electrical waste produced each year in the UK continues to grow at an alarming rate. As many electrical components contain harmful substances such as mercury or lead, disposal via landfill or incineration poses serious environmental risks.

In 2006, The Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE) Directive was introduced in the UK which stipulates regulations for environmentally-compliant disposal of electronic waste. Its main aim is to encourage computer and laptop recycling, and to reduce the amount of electronic waste going straight to landfill.

Current security laws including the Data protection Act of 1998 also ensure that potentially sensitive data must be dealt with safely and securely to ensure no information reaches the public domain. Severe penalties have been put in place to discourage companies from bypassing this essential aspect of the computer and laptop recycling and disposal process.

CDL has always guaranteed 0% landfill and 100% data security.
